Understanding Septic Dosages

Starting with a Backed Up or Broken Septic System

  • Hycura SP – Septic Tank Treatment has been used in municipal lagoons, septic tanks, cesspools, and off shore sewage tanks. Each situation requires a different amount to clean and restore backed up and clogged systems. Depending on the severity of the problem increase dosage may be needed until the system is free flowing. There is no exact science or equation to determine dosage for every problem tank or system. There are many aspects and variables to take into consideration. For example, the age of your system, what is the size or capacity of the tank, how many people are being supported by the system, what type of sewage is being treated, are there large amounts of fats and oils being flushed into the system, what time of year you are starting treatment, the climate and many more.

Here is a rule of thumb for treating septic tanks and drainage fields that are experiencing problems. You should at a minimum use the following chart as a guide for treating problem systems, based on a 1000 gallon tank.

Suggested Maintenance Treatment for “Treated” Septic Systems

One Scoop per 1000 Gallon Tank
    100

After a septic tank and drainage field system is again functioning at its designed capacity after being fully treated using the guidelines above then only a maintenance application is required which can be determined on the size of the system and inflow of sewage. For septic tanks larger than 1000 gallons please multiply the dosage rate accordingly.
