Drinking Water – Tips On Staying Hydrated

Water flowing to a cup.

When it comes to staying healthy and giving your body what it needs, nothing gets the job done quite like good old fashioned water.  During these especially hot summer months, staying hydrated is all the more important. Now we’ve all heard before how drinking water is such a beneficial move, but do we really know the reasons why? Well, to start, around 60% of the human body is made of water. The more you drink, the more efficiently all your organs can function. Grab yourself a tall glass of water and take a look at the specifics:

Weight Control – Sometimes those hunger pangs are actually caused by boredom, depression and especially, thirst! The next time you feel hungry in between meals, reach for the water first and wait ten minutes. More often than not, your body was just craving more H2O.

Fights Common Colds – What is the first thing you always hear when you get sick? Drink more fluids! When you’re feeling stuffy and fatigued, make extra sure that you are ingesting enough water to keep you from feeling worse.

Keeps Headaches at Bay – Migraines are often caused by dehydration. When you aren’t drinking enough, your blood volume goes down and your blood vessels expand, which leads to inflammation and increased pain. By staying on top of your water intake, you can do your part to prevent or avoid painful headaches altogether.

Improves Skin Appearance – By drinking the recommended amount of water (divide your weight in half and drink that much in ounces), you’ll mitigate and prevent the appearance of wrinkles, dry skin, eczema,  bloated cheeks, and acnem

Prevents Fatigue – Some experts believe that a glass of water in the morning can energize you much the same way coffee can. Logically, since we lose water while we sleep, it’s important to drink our fill when we start the day.

Fuels Muscles – By ensuring that you’re staying hydrated at all times, you will get to reap the benefits with lubricated muscles that will be less likely to seize up or cramp when you are working out.

Saves Money and Calories – By choosing water over a fancy coffee drink or a cocktail, you will not only save big bucks, but calories too. In just a matter of months you’ll notice your wallet growing as your waistline shrinks.

Powers the Brain – Since water aids in concentration and mental clarity, drinking a large cup before you head to work or school is always recommended.

Maintains Bowel Regularity – Nothing is worse than feeling gassy, bloated and uncomfortable in the abdominal region. By increasing your water intake you can keep your colon operating at its best, and you will be less likely to experience constipation and other unpleasant side-effects

Improves workouts – By reducing cramps and tiredness, you can run and lift weights longer without getting pulled to the sideline by an annoying stomach knot or dizziness. You’ll feel better after enduring a longer workout, and your body will thank you for it!
